From the Salt Pit to the jungle by Bike 8D/7N - Argentina

Arrive at Salta, reception at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation.

We depart by car through the old route 40 to San Salvador de Jujuy. At 1450 masl. started pedaling this route. After admiring this incredible mountain road, we arrived at the Dique “ La Cienaga”. Loading bikes and transfer to Purmamarca.Total distance: 53km. Kind of road: Pavement. 390 meters of ascent /descent 610 meters.

In the morning, we start to know Salinas Grandes. (Great Pit Salt) Visit. Lunch. Then ascend in vehicle up to Cuesta de Lipan from 3400 masl. From there we start a descent to Purmamarca. Total distance: 46km. Kind of roads: Asphalt. 310 meters of ascent / descent 2000 m

We start by vehicle through the Quebrada de Humahuaca, passing by Tilcara, Tumbaya and Humahuaca through the Route 9. Then, we turn to Iruya through a gravel road, passing through small towns in the “Abra del Condor” to 3900 masl start a fabulous zigzag descent, surrounded by ancient terraces built,, all in an incredible natural setting of deep canyons, dry rivers and impressive mountains. Accommodation in Iruya. Visit the village and its church. Total distance: 42 to 55 km. Kind of road: Gravel. 420 meters of ascent / descent1480 meters.

Today we will trek: We leave from Iruya to San Isidro, a town located 8 km from Iruya. The road makes us cross the river several times through different colored hills, up to this small town on the edge of cliffs.
Total distance: 14 km of trek.

From Iruya, drive to the “Abra del Condor” through the traditional way, different from that used to descend the day before. Once in the high pass, will descend towards the Quebrada de Humahuaca by bike. Total distance: 54km. Kind of road: Gravel and asphalt. 360 meters of ascent /descent 1350 meters.

We leave to the east, the colorful scenery, the gorge formed by centuries of erosion, the road full of curves that accompanies the green fertile valley, are an invitation to enjoy the last day bicycle tour. Free afternoon in Humahuaca. Total distance: 38km. Kind or road: Gravel. 740 meters of ascent / descent 680 meters.
